Big Floppa started with real photographs of a caracal cat named Gregory, posted on Instagram in December 2019.

The name “Floppa” was coined in late January 2020, and the meme quickly spread across the internet.

His massive ears and deadpan expression made him perfect for both ironic and wholesome edits, amassing millions of views and likes on Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, and other platforms.

In Russian-speaking communities he became known as “Большой Шлёпа.”

Floppa was especially welcomed by the Doge fandom. Fans of the classic Doge meme and its extended Dogelore universe embraced him as part of their shared mythology, giving him a lasting place alongside characters like Bingus and Walter.

Even years later, Big Floppa remains one of the most iconic and beloved cat memes on the internet.
